World Pancreatic Cancer Day: Demand Better together!
Today, the World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition (WPCC) is mobilising its resources to fight against one of the world’s deadliest cancers. More than 70 organisations from 30 countries, including Servier, are participating in the campaign to raise awareness about the urgent need for earlier detection.
Every day, more than 1,250 people are diagnosed worldwide. If no measures are taken, it will become the second most frequent cancer by 2020. One of the reasons is that it is often diagnosed too late, because it is asymptomatic in the early stages. Yet research indicates that patients diagnosed early on have more treatment options and a greater chance of survival.
Encouraging early detection and research
This year, the WPCC is inviting the world community to inspire action and raise awareness about this deadly disease. Events are being organised in different countries to help people to better identify the symptoms and risks. Through this initiative, the WPCC also hopes to encourage governments to invest more in research, which is a source of hope for patients.
Oncology is one of the therapeutic priorities of Servier which has chosen to increase its R&D investments. As a member organisation of the WPCD, Servier is supporting the action with a donation of 40,000 dollars.
