Cholangiocarcinoma, rare cancer of the bile ducts

Northeast Thailand has the highest incidence worldwide with 90 per 100,000 inhabitants1.

China, South Korea, and Thailand are particularly affected due to the presence of a parasitic worm that infects the liver and vile ducts.

70 yeas is the average age of those affected2.

Risk factors:

Several factors increase the risk of developing a bile duct cancer:

  • Age
  • Obesity
  • Bile duct disease
  • Exposure to certain chemicals
  • Diabetes
