5 Key things to know about World Heart Day

World Heart Day is one of the major campaigns to improve heart health and access to care. It was initiated by the World Heart Federation, and we join forces with them. Learn more about World Heart Day.

80%

As many as 80% of premature deaths from cardiovascular disease could be prevented through more affordable access to care, early screening, better nutrition, and regular physical activity1.

Angina pectoris: Pay attention to what your heart is telling you

Myocardial ischemia (insufficient oxygen supply to the heart muscle) is a major cause of death and disability across the globe, and angina pectoris (or angina) is the most common symptom2. Typical angina is usually defined as chest pain that is distinctive in intensity and duration and can be triggered by physical exercise or emotional stress.

Heart failure: When the heart can no longer keep up

Heart failure can cause many day-to-day challenges including shortness of breath, fatigue, swelling in the ankles, and other symptoms. It significantly impairs patients’ quality of life. However, this serious condition can be stabilized with medication (or in some cases, surgery) and a healthy lifestyle.

High blood pressure (HBP), also known as hypertension, is a chronic condition with persistently high blood pressure over time. It is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease. However, high blood pressure can be controlled through early detection and appropriate treatment.

At Servier, we take this issue very seriously. As the world’s sixth-leading pharmaceutical group in cardiology3, we strongly believe that therapy adherence is key to providing effective treatment and improving patient care. Our approach is focused on three main areas:

  • Single Pill Combinations (SPCs): Combine several molecules in a single tablet, SPCs simplify treatment and make it easier for patients to take their medication on a daily basis. Learn more about Single Pill Combinations
  • Beyond the pill digital innovations: We use digital applications to provide patients with a “digital companion” that can help them manage their health.
  • Therapeutic education: This involves raising awareness and educating patients and healthcare professionals in close collaboration with international experts, learned societies, and patient associations. The goal is to empower patients to take an active role in their treatment by promoting a better understanding of their disease and treatment options.
