Finally, a day dedicated to therapeutic adherence!

Throughout the world, patient adherence is dangerously low. In high-income countries, estimates indicate that more than half of patients with chronic diseases do not follow their prescribed treatments. In low-income countries, adherence rates are even lower. That’s why, along with the World Heart Federation, we are launching a call to action to address this crisis. The goal is to raise awareness of the importance of therapeutic adherence: acting today to protect tomorrow.

80%

A patient is considered “non-adherent” if they comply with less than 80% of their prescribed treatment plan.

The #DontMissAMoment campaign emphasizes the importance of carefully following your treatment plan to the letter, whether it involves medication and/or a healthier lifestyle. For patients, this means prioritizing health and well-being, as well as having more opportunities to create meaningful moments with loved ones.

In recent years, adherence to prescribed treatment for chronic conditions has become a major concern in the health care sector. And yet, this phenomenon is still underestimated by public authorities, despite its undeniable impact on the sustainability of health care systems. Fortunately, awareness is gradually growing across the board (patients and their loved ones, public authorities, industry, etc.).

Politico, an international political news media, has partnered with Servier to launch a series of exclusive interviews to shed light on this complex topic and offer innovative solutions. Explore the interviews.

At Servier, we take this reality very seriously. As the world’s fifth leading pharmaceutical group in cardiology and the leading group in hypertension2, we firmly believe that therapeutic adherence is a vital component when it comes to treating patients and improving their care. We place particular emphasis on three key areas:

  • Single Pill Combinations (SPC) or fixed-dose combinations: Several compounds are combined in a single tablet/capsule to simplify treatment and make it easier for patients to take their medication every day. Learn more about Single Pill Combinations.
  • “Beyond the pill”digital innovations: Digital applications are designed to serve as constant “digital companions” for better patient health.
  • Therapeutic education: Raising awareness and educating both patients and healthcare professionals in close collaboration with international experts, scientific societies, and patient associations. The aim is to make each patient an active participant in their own treatment by improving their knowledge of the disease and treatment options. Find out more about therapeutic education for healthcare professionals.

Our “As One” initiative also exemplifies this approach. It is designed to improve patient adherence and control, enhance outcomes, and strive for better therapeutic efficacy. We aim to provide better care for both health care professionals and patients.
