Patient voices: Living with glioma

Through a collection of personal testimonials, Servier wishes to shine a light on people living with brain tumors, particularly glioma, a rare form of brain cancer.

In this publication, Marcus, Rebecca, Dirk, John, Nick and Ashley tell their stories, share their journeys and describe their fight against disease. Beyond the stories it tells, “Patient voices: Living with glioma” illustrates the Group’s desire to always place patients at the heart of oncology research and development. By collecting the words from patients and their loved ones, we are reaffirming our commitment to developing treatments and solutions for supporting patients that are increasingly tailored to their needs, in a spirit of innovation and collaboration.

Brain cancer, and especially glioma, represent a major medical challenge today. Because of their complexity, it is particularly difficult to find effective treatments for these conditions. For patients with glioma, the prospects for recovery are currently very low.

Given these challenges, our teams are focusing their efforts on two key areas for the future:

  • Precision medicine: Treatments tailored to each patient’s biological signature. In oncology, 70% of the molecules currently being developed are precision treatments.1
  • Artificial intelligence (AI): One of the major forces driving progress in oncology is AI. It has the ability to facilitate identification of therapeutic targets, conduct clinical trials, and determine the populations most likely to respond favorably to treatment. That’s why AI might reduce the time-to-market for medicines and increase the probability of success for therapeutic candidates.
