Across the globe, Servier is taking action to promote therapeutic adherence

Nearly one out of every two people living with a chronic disease does not take their medication as prescribed1. This widespread problem has a direct impact on the effectiveness of care, as well as on patients’ quality of life and health.

Did you know?

A person is considered non-adherent if they comply with less than 80% of their prescribed treatment plan2.

Servier is committed to promoting treatment adherence and making it a key focus for dialogue and action at all levels, from healthcare teams to people living with disease. As part of our global commitment, we are rolling out a series of local initiatives to bring this important message closer to where it matters most.

Therapeutic adherence: When every pill counts

Simplifying treatments, leveraging digital tools, and raising awareness are key factors in overcoming the challenges of therapeutic adherence.

World Adherence Day was established in collaboration with the World Heart Federation and 14 other partner institutions. And as a result, the first ever worldwide day dedicated to treatment adherence took place on March 27.

Servier subsidiaries rolled out a number of high-impact local initiatives to mark the occasion! Globally Servier subsidiaries managed to engage more than 200 various stakeholders, from scientific societies to pharmacists’ associations and patients’ groups. There are many examples from countries cascading and launching initiatives, here we highlight just some examples.

In Greece, Servier Group signed an official charter on treatment adherence at the French Embassy in Athens. This initiative was developed in partnership with medical associations and patient groups — and under the auspices of the Ministry of Health — demonstrating a clear commitment to mainstreaming the issue into the national healthcare system.

In the Middle East, strategic partnerships with the Ministry of Health of the United Arab Emirates reflect a similar commitment to taking concrete action for improved treatment adherence.

Likewise, in Poland, treatment adherence was a key part of the Health Challenges Congress, bringing together experts and decision makers. Furthermore, at a Senate Health Committee meeting, a new parliamentary group was set up to work on solutions for treatment adherence in chronic diseases.

In Kazakhstan, the issue was the focus of two national conferences attended by more than 400 doctors. And in India, more than 4,000 healthcare professionals participated in a webinar exploring Servier’s role in improving therapeutic adherence.

And last but not least, to raise public awareness in Portugal, several monuments including the Cristo Rei (Lisbon), the Palacete dos Viscondes de Balsemão (Porto), the Assembleia Legislativa dos Açores (Legislative Assembly of the Azores), and the São Tiago Church (Óbidos) were bathed in red light on the night of March 27.

Our subsidiaries are also actively involved on social media through World Adherence Day’s #DontMissAMoment campaign, which emphasizes the importance of closely following treatment plans, whether they involve medication or a healthier lifestyle. For patients, this means prioritizing their health and well-being as well as having the opportunity to create meaningful moments with their loved ones.
