Patients sought out for their expertise
In 2023, Servier convened an initial collaborative group of patients, patient experts, and representatives from international diabetes associations and coalitions following a meeting held at the Servier R&D Institute in Paris-Saclay. The goal was to get patients involved in every stage of a medicine’s life cycle. The first PAC quickly expanded to include cardiovascular diseases and is now made up of representatives from 15 countries. Through their regular collaboration, the group co-authored an article on the importance of treatment adherence in cardiovascular disease in Advances in Therapy1, a peer-reviewed journal whose articles are reviewed by a group of experts to ensure their scientific quality and accuracy. It was a demanding and meticulous undertaking, which is a credit to our dedicated PAC members!

Rising to the therapeutic adherence challenge
Therapeutic adherence refers to the degree of concordance between a doctor’s recommendations and a patient’s behavior. A person is considered “non-adherent” when they follow less than 80% of their treatment2. This is a commonly occurring situation, particularly in the case of silent, invisible cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. To overcome this complex and multifaceted issue, Servier is committed to delivering innovative solutions, particularly through Single Pill Combinations that combine several molecules in a single tablet. Such innovations are complemented by “Beyond the Pill” programs to better support people in managing their disease, and by awareness-raising initiatives that promote therapeutic information.

There are 177 international patient organizations that worked in partnership with Servier in 2024-2025.
You speak, we listen, we act together
For Servier, patient engagement is “purposeful, timely collaboration where patients actively inform, shape, and co-create care, research, and innovation through ongoing dialogue that drives decisions, aligns with real needs, and builds lasting trust.”
As part of our Servier 2030 Ambition, we are working to ensure that:
“Listening to patients is the first step towards partnering with them and taking action on their behalf. PACs allow us to incorporate their expertise into our decision-making, from clinical trials to awareness campaigns, with the goal of improving treatment adherence.”
Quality medical information, a trusting relationship with health care professionals, and consideration of lifestyle factors — including mental health issues — are all key areas for action and co-construction!
