An ESCEO-IOF/Servier Achievement Award: the 2015 Pierre Delmas Prize winner is Professor Jean-Yves Reginster

The Pierre Delmas Prize was created in 2010 by Servier, in partnership with the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ESCEO) and the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF). The Pierre Delmas Prize is awarded for outstanding and major scientific contributions to the study of bone and mineral diseases.

The prize is named in honor of Pierre Delmas, Founding President of the IOF, and Professor of Medicine and Rheumatology at the University of Lyon (France). Pierre Delmas was an outstanding scientist who directed essential basic clinical research in metabolic bone diseases, particularly in osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.

The sixth Pierre Delmas Prize (which consists of a diploma, a medal, and a grant of €40 000) was awarded on March 26, at the opening of the WCO-IOF-ESCEO Milan 2015, by Ms Laurence Alliot, Director of International Medical Communication, to Professor Jean-Yves Reginster from Liège (Belgium), in recognition of his outstanding scientific contributions to the study of bone and mineral diseases.

Professor Jean-Yves Reginster trained at the University of Liège in Belgium (MD, PhD),  and specialized in physical medicine and rehabilitation (Liège, Belgium), in public health (Nancy, France) and in epidemiology (Ann Arbor, MI, USA).

As Professor and Chairman, he directs the activities of Public Health Sciences, Epidemiology, and Health Economics of the University of Liège, where he also heads the Center for Investigation in Bone and Articular Metabolism. He has also been appointed Professor of Medical Bioethics and Societal Medicine at the University of Liège.

Professor Jean-Yves Reginster is President of the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ESCEO), and of the Group for the Respects of Ethics and Excellence in Science (GREES). He is the co-founder of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) where he currently serves on the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Committee of Scientific Advisors (CSA), and as Chairman of the Committee of National Sciences (CNS).

Professor Jean-Yves Reginster serves on the Editorial Board of numerous journals, such as Osteoporosis International, Bone, and Calcified Tissue International. He has written more than 600 scientific articles in the most distinguished journals (New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism) and more than 80 books or book chapters.
